- I got a pair of USR 28.8 DSVD Sporsters (internal) recently
- (PROMS seem to be dated last june or july). Used to connect a
- PC (Dos 6.2) from Indiana to Florida over some cut-rate LD carrier.
- Local connects at 28.8 all the time, the long dist call always
- connects at 26.4K and never dropped the connection.. about 8 hours
- of connect time so far (5 of it on one session).. with voice
- running also.. Plugged in a cheap $9 Rat Shaft "Bannana" phone
- into the back of each modem for the voice circuit.. works fine..
- There is about a 1/2-3/4 second "delay" when going over the voice
- circuit (like a long satellite hop).. pretty neat.. leave the phones
- on hook (after data conn established), then picking up one phone
- causes the other to ring (actually the remote modem rings its spkr).
-
- They are working fine for this project.. happy customer.
-
- Did not call support nor mess with the init strings, except to
- default DSVD mode on. Manuals were clear enough for me..
-
- Biggest hassle (not the modem's fault, DSVD is internal only) was
- running out of IRQ's.. and trying to jockey around the IRQ's
- (Plug & Pray sound blaster).. and had to get the SB below IRQ 7,
- so doom/descent/etc will work. The modem shared the IRQ with the LP ok.
